Oban MRT were called out at 9:50pm last night to assist two Scottish Islands Peaks Race competitors ( from the boat ‘Honeybee’ ) in difficulty near to the summit of Ben More on Mull. Reports from other runners suggested conditions on the summit were horrendous earlier in the evening.
Low cloud initially prevented assistance by helicopter so the team deployed to Mull on the 10:30pm ferry. Once on scene weather improved and Rescue 177 was tasked to assist, locating the runners on the east ridge of Ben More at around 2 am just as 7 team members reached the summit ridge.
The two runners were recovered safely back to the foot of the hill by Rescue177, cold and suffering cramp. They were transported by road back to Salen.
Team descended hill and waited on first ferry back from Mull, returning to Oban at 8 am.
